Has it been a week yet?

8/26/2015

Hey guys! If you're looking for the newest One More Week with Vegas, you'll only have to wait a little longer! I'm building my new PC right now and should begin regular episodes again very soon! In the meantime stay updated by subscribing to the show on iTunes, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts.

And, I dunno, check out Ryan North's Dinosaur Comics, I like that a lot!

Ep. 03 - Lion Week

The third episode of One More Week with Vegas! This week I talk about Cecil the Lion, dentists, and Jen Welter of the Arizona Cardinals!

There's a lot about this one that I'm pretty proud of. I think I'm starting to figure out how to translate my stand-up voice to the podcast. But what matters most is what you think - so let me know what you think!

Notes:
As promised, here is the Jimmy Kimmel Cecil the Lion monologue.
Jimmy Kimmel asked that dudes and ladies make a donation to the Wildlife Conservation and Research Unit so I'll ask you to do the same thing. Who ever thought I'd be following the example of the guy whose show used to end with hot ladies jumping up and down on trampolines? I'm really lionizing Jimmy Kimmel. Eh? Eh? I hate myself.
That Marco Rubio tweet is a real thing. (Still up as of 08/01/15)
Here's the ESPN article on Jen Welter. Whether you read the comments at the bottom is up to you.
Dennis Rodman is a dude who publicly endorses presidents sometimes.

Ep. 02 - Trumped Up

It's the second episode of One More Week with Vegas! I talk about Caitlyn Jenner (again?!), Donald Trump, and Pluto!

Many thanks to Laura Rachfalski with audio production help and advice, and to the many people who offered feedback on the first episode. You're all great!!

Notes:
In the episode, I describe the Kardashians as a "billion dollar empire." The best estimate I could find suggests they're actual net worth is in the hundreds of millions, which is still way too much.
At one point I say that a transgender person is 100 times more likely to be murdered than average. It's tough to find actual good statistics on this one. Take my words as artistic license and suffice to say that trans-persons* are WAY more likely to be murdered than average.
*Also, the preferred vocabulary for the trans-community is constantly changing. I try my best not to use the "wrong" words, I apologize if I screwed up.
A lot of the Donald Trump analysis is based on work at Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight.com, which is quickly becoming my favorite journalism source on the 'net. This article talks about the relationship between media coverage, public interest, and Trump's poll numbers. FiveThirtyEight keeps track of primary candidates endorsements here.
More about Cthulu, Pluto here.
Crazy videos of that shark attack here.

Episode 1 - July '15 Week 3

7/17/2015

You can download this episode directly here.

The first episode of One More Week with Vegas, a topical comedy podcast!

Vegas talks about the Washington Redskins' trademark, Caitlyn Jenners' speech at the ESPY awards, and "Hey Mama" by Dave Guetta and Nicki Minaj.

I'm very excited to launch this first episode! It's not overly long, I spent way more time learning how to produce and publish a podcast then I expected, which really ate into my story research and writing time. As I get more used to the technology, you can expect shows to have greater and more varied content. But for now, thank you for listening, subscribe if you enjoyed it, and let me know what you think!
